Donald Dugger Vanished After a Disturbing 911 Call
When Donald “Don” Dugger vanished, he was a 43‑year‑old trucker from Minnesota and an experienced hunter. He had been on the road for several weeks. On August 11th, 2012, after returning from a long East Coast haul, Don made a disturbing 4:30 AM call to his sister from inside his truck cab.
He told her his truck was surrounded by “ten people in camouflage.” During the call, she heard him say:
“Who’s out there? What do you want? I’m trying to cooperate.”
He said he was going to call 911. The call abruptly ended. This was the last time anyone in his family ever heard his voice.
Shortly after, Donald Dugger vanished.
The 911 Call and Police Response
Police responded to Don’s 911 call and found him alone. He told officers the people he’d seen had “run west.” Officer Schultz searched the area with Don but found no one.
Officers checked Don’s cab:
- no medication
- no alcohol
- no drugs
Nothing to suggest impairment. Nothing to suggest he was hallucinating.
Schultz left briefly to pick up another officer. When he returned, Don was moving items from his truck into his personal vehicle. Don again said he saw the suspects, but by the time officers looked, no one was there.
In the 911 call, Don mentioned cameras and trying to communicate with the people he believed were outside. His speech sounded slightly off—possibly exhaustion after a long haul, the trucker’s version of jet lag.
This was the last confirmed sighting of him.
Donald Dugger Reported Missing
Don wasn’t reported missing for several days. His sister had tried calling him back but couldn’t reach him. She and her son attempted multiple times to contact him, but they didn’t file a report immediately.
It’s unclear whether Don’s phone was powered on in the days after he vanished. That detail has never been clarified.
Eventually, a third party found Don’s vehicle on an ATV trail about a mile northeast of the Winner Silo in the Beltrami State Forest.
The vehicle was:
- stuck
- abandoned
- 22 miles from where Don was last seen
Police checked the plate, confirmed it was Don’s, and went to his home. No one was there. His employer assumed he had quit after failing to return from his days off.
Near the vehicle:
- footprints (unconfirmed as Don’s)
- a camo glove on the main road, half a mile away
- the glove had a hole in the index finger — just like Don’s
Inside the vehicle:
- Don’s gun
- two full magazines
This was unusual. Don had a concealed‑carry permit and reportedly never left his gun behind.

This case is a knot of contradictions.
A man calls his sister, terrified. Police arrive and find him alone. He vanishes hours later. His vehicle turns up 22 miles away, stuck on an ATV trail. His gun — which he always carried — is left behind. His phone disappears. His cash disappears. He disappears.
There are cases where people walk into the wilderness and vanish. There are cases where people leave their vehicles and vanish. But this one starts with a panic call, a 911 call, and a sighting of no one.
Something happened to Don Dugger. Something sudden. Something that left no trace.
What that “something” is remains one of the strangest open questions in Minnesota. The po-lice checked the license plate and saw it belonged to Donald. They went to his house, but no one was there. His boss figured he quit since he didn't show up after his days off. There were some footprints near the car, but they weren't sure if they were Don's. They found a camo glove on the main road, about half a mile away. It had a hole in the index finger, just like Don's glove. Inside the car, they found his gun. Don had a permit to carry concealed weapons, so it was odd that his gun and two full magazines were still in the car. Don's sister, Dianna, said he always had his gun with him. So, to sum it up...

Donald Duggers' cell phone remains elusive, never to be found. When Donald Dugger was reported missing, the battery had already died, leaving us with little to go on. The cell phone provider did manage to provide some logs, revealing that the last call made was to 911 on the morning of the 11th. Despite numerous attempts to ping Don's phone, there was no response. The police scoured local CCTV cameras and spotted Don's vehicle after he left work. Unfortunately, the video quality was too poor to determine if anyone else was in the car with him. However, there was no sign of anyone following him. The trail goes cold from there, but Don's sister mentioned that he had cashed three paychecks on the day he disappeared, carrying over $4,000 with him. To this day, the money remains missing, just like Don and his cell phone.
